The Saudi Minister of Environment signs agreements to establish the “Rabigh 4” water station, in partnership with the private sector

The Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture – Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Saudi Water Partnerships” Company, Eng. Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadhli, signed the agreements for the construction of the “Rabigh 4 Independent Water Production” plant project in Rabigh Governorate in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, with a production capacity of 600 thousand cubic meters. of desalinated water per day.

Al-Fadli said that these agreements come to achieve the goals and plans of the water system to implement water production projects in partnership with the private sector to serve the supply system in all regions of the Kingdom, which reflects its strategy with this sector to implement its projects.

And he stated that the “Rabigh 4” station project will work directly to serve pilgrims and Umrah performers, in addition to the beneficiaries in the regions of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, adding that the project aims to develop this vital sector, improve the quality of services, in addition to raising the efficiency of spending, and benefiting from the expertise of the private sector. In the establishment, operation and management, and increase its contribution to development in accordance with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, according to the Saudi Press Agency, “SPA”.

For his part, the CEO of the “Saudi Water Partnerships” company, Engineer Khalid bin Zuwaid Al-Quraishi, indicated that the actual operation of the project will begin in the first quarter of 2026 AD, and it will work using the “reverse osmosis” technology.

He explained that the project will contribute to reducing levels of electric energy consumption, achieving high levels of continuous production, in addition to reducing operating costs, and supporting local content by increasing the percentage of localization of businesses and human resources.

It is noteworthy that the Rabigh 4 project for independent water production is the eighth project in desalinated water production projects in partnership with the private sector after the launch of the National Water Strategy. Saudi Arabia, of which 8 applicants were qualified, and the preferred bidder alliance was chosen after a competition that took place between 3 alliances, including 3 local companies, two international companies, and a Gulf company, adding that the winning alliance for the project consists of ACWA Power, Haji Abdullah Ali Reda and Partners and Almoayyed Group. Contracting.

This project comes as an extension of the privatization and partnership processes between the public and private sectors in the environment, water and agriculture sectors, after signing several previous projects for independent water production and wastewater treatment.
