Private lessons for official exams: Institutes are thriving and these prices

With the Minister of Education, Abbas Al-Halabi, announcing his confirmation of holding official exams this year after the upheaval and loss that befell the educational sector, a strong recovery was observed in the institutes specialized in providing private lessons, with students re-registering to make up for the time they missed, especially with the approaching date of the exams.

In this context, “Lebanon 24” monitored the approved prices in various Lebanese regions. For example, the monthly registration fee in a private institute reached $60 for an average of 4 days of education per week in the towns of the Aley district, while the city itself is witnessing an increase in prices, as the monthly fee amount recorded ranged between Between $100 and $165, or $7 per hour.

In Beirut, most institutes resort to the hourly system, which ranges between 9 and 15 dollars. As for the institutes that adopt a monthly payment system, they ask for no less than $170 for three days a week, for only two hours each day, and up to $200 and $250, depending on the region in which the institute is located.
In other areas, such as Tripoli and Akkar, prices are lower, as an hour of instruction ranges between 6 and 10 dollars, depending on the subject being taught, as scientific subjects are usually priced higher than literary subjects.

In parallel, and despite prices considered high due to the deterioration of the Lebanese purchasing power, the institutes pulled the rug from under private education teachers, who were heavily dependent on this work, which generated a large income on an almost daily basis.

The hour of a private professor currently ranges between 15 and 45 dollars, especially in scientific subjects. According to what one of the professors told “Lebanon 24”, the number of students has decreased by more than 70% from what it was before. The professor who used to teach 4 students daily at an average of one or two hours for each student individually, today he teaches only one or two students, and the matter was limited only For students who have the financial ability to pay.

The professor explained to “Lebanon 24” that some professors have begun giving private classes to a group of students that may not exceed ten students in exchange for them sharing a certain amount offered by the professor. For example, a professor may demand a certain amount in exchange for completing the curriculum for one subject within 20 days. Here, according to the number of students, the amount is divided, and this is what is common at the present time.
