Tesla lays off more than 10% of its employees

A leaked internal Tesla email revealed that CEO Elon Musk will lay off more than 10% of the workforce.

Reuters reported news on Monday about an email sent to at least three American employees, informing them that their dismissal had become effective.

According to EV Electrek, which first reported the layoffs, the company did not reveal which teams would actually be affected. But with the number of Tesla employees reaching approximately 140,000 workers globally, the decision is likely to affect at least 14,000 employees.

“As we prepare the company for the next phase of growth, it is extremely important that we look at every aspect of the company to reduce costs and increase productivity,” Musk reportedly said in the letter. As part of this effort, we conducted a comprehensive review of the organization and made the difficult decision to reduce our headcount by more than 10% globally. “There is nothing I hate more, but it has to be done.”

Commenting on reports of layoffs, Musk wrote on the X website: “About every five years, we need to reorganize the company and prepare it for the next stage of growth.” (Russia Today)
